Our Place

At Losmen Ombak we provide a comfortable place to stay that is conveniently located directly in front of Mentawai’s world famous wave Lance’s Right (or Hollow Trees) on Pulau Sipora, Mentawai.

We have created an idyllic atmosphere through the use of traditional Mentawai architecture and landscaping that accentuates the serene beauty of the Mentawai Islands.

At Losmen Ombak we have a restaurant with a selection of Indonesian, Chinese and Western food.

We provide free drinking water and local fruits (right from the trees on our property). In the morning there is free coffee and tea.

In addition there is a TV in the common area for watching movies and we provide free WiFi for our guests.

Transport

Losmen Ombak is located on the beach right in front of Lance’s Right (or HT’s) in the Village of Katiet, Sipora, Mentawai island..

To get to Sipora from Padang there are several option :

1. Ambu-Ambu Ferry

The Ambu-Ambu ferry departs on Sunday night as well as Thursday night on 8 pm the harbor in Bungus, a village about 30 min south from Padang, arriving the next day in the morning.

To get to Bungus from the airport, you can do this by taxi or public transportation. There are busses going from the airport to Padang (18.000 Rp) and then departing from “Pasar Raya” there are small busses to Bangus for 10.000 Rp per Person.

The ferry goes to Tua Peijat, the town in the north of Sipora.

The prices are 77.000 Rp for second class, 97.000 Rp for first class. Taking a surfboard costs additionally 30.000 Rp.

From Tua Peijat it is another 2 1/2 hour ride by speedboat. If you contact us before, we will pick you up. The price is 3.000.000 Rp for the whole boat, which can take up to 4 person.

2. Gambolo Ferry

We also recommend you take Gambolo ferry, since new inter island ferry it is name SIMATALU operate until in SAO. The SIMATALU inter island ferry goes to SAO, the village close to HT’s katiet. Just 7 minute distance with motorcycle. This ferry leave Monday morning at 9am from Tuapejat harbor and arrive in SAO at 1pm. Motorcycle rent IDR 100.000 and ferry ticket IDR 40.000

3. Mentawai Fast

This is a fast ferry. From Padang to Mentawai it is a 3 hours ride by this ferry. It has an access in Tuapejat only in Sipora island area. Operate every on monday, wednesday and Friday at 07.00am. The ferry price IDR 250.000 for ticket, luggage 1 kilogram maximum, additional charge IDR 2000 per kilogram and surfboard charge IDR 230.000 per surf bag. We will pick you up the price is IDR 3.000.000 for whole the boat which carries a maximum 4 person

4. Flight

There are flights from Padang to the airport Rokot on Sipora, which is located between Tua Peijat and Sipora. Since the flights are expensive and the transport from the airport to Katiet is not easier, we do no recommend taking the plane. Nevertheless, we can help you arranging that as well.

Once in Katiet, everything is in walkable distance or only a short ride on the motorbike away. The world famous wave “Lance’s Right (or HT’s)” is right in front of our place, while Lance’s Left and Bintangs are 5 km away on the other side of the island.
